Body dissatisfaction and body dysmorphia

Body dissatisfaction 2

Body dissatisfaction or body image disturbance occurs when someone becomes extremely unhappy about their body size or shape. This may relate to low self-esteem, negative body experiences, low mood, or social anxiety. Treatment is usually targeted at the cause of the condition and may consist of a combination of talking therapies.

The ‘Change the Story’ section of the Worth Warrior app, as well as the ‘Change the way I view my Body,’ section are relevant.

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) where a person fixates on a specific body part or parts to such a distressing level that they are unable to function well in their lives. There are specific treatments for BDD, including medication and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for OCD.

BDD requires assessment by a mental health professional and specific psychological intervention. The ‘Change the Action’ section of the Worth Warrior app can help with obsessive thoughts and checking behaviours.
